Contemporary Art museum
The castle of san Jose was built between 1776 and 1779 on the coast
close to Arrecife, to sight the arrival of pirates to the Island,
and at the same time to give work to the people of Lanzarote, especially
in need after the eruptions in the middle of the XVIII century.
The fortress was transformed by Cesar Manrique into one of the
most important museums of Contemporary Art of the Canary Islands
whose samples the XX century. The Castle also contains an elegant
restaurant with a view to the port of Naos and the pier of Los Marmoles
with international and local cuisine.
