La Graciosa Caleta del Sebo

A unit of white houses and sandy streets is the picture offered by the capital of the most oriental island of the Canarian archipielago. La Graciosa is situated near one of the world´s most abundant fish banks the inhabitants main source of income. As a matte of fact it was the reason why Caleta del Sebo was founded in the middle of the XIX century.

The first population of La Graciosa arrived to the island to work in the fish salting factory and decided to stay on the island after the factory closed down.

For this reason when ducks is falling it is of little wonder to see the little boats arriving at the shore, filled with their precious merchandise of freshly caught fish, and the women cleaning them in seawater while alert and hungry seagulls fly around in circles waiting for their share. It is also usual to see fish drying in

the sun like washing hanging on lines, smelling of sea and sun.

Today Caleta del Sebo reckons with modern sea and land infrastructures as well as all the necessary amenities such as a school, a small hospital, chemist, city council office, bank branch, etc, which means it fulfils all the essential services necessary for the enjoyment of quiet and relaxing holidays.
